Tulip fields, the beach, and @christiansonsnursery

Tulip fields, the beach, and @christiansonsnursery, one of our favorite family traditions:) The boys even enjoy the tulips in the middle of our tulip season. We don’t get to see the tulips color at our farm as we harvest so they put on a show in your home instead, so we all love seeing them fully bloomed! Then we head to the beach, run around, then eat some yummy food, then swim at the hotel, then spend the whole next day at Christianson’s Nursery, well not the whole day but we did have some nappers while we were there. Rearrange the car so we have room for all the plants, and head home with 1 stop for ice cream, lovely fun and beautiful packed 2 day vacation!!

If you didn’t make it to the fields, come grab some tulips and enjoy them in your own home! We have tulips for you!

Can you smell them?? Ahhhhh the best thing, my favorite sweet lilacs, so short lived so I make sure to savor them on all my trips out to harvest tulips, welcoming me with the yummiest smell, and pretties flowers.

About 1% of the dahlias we stored are in…yes it is not “safe” to do so yet. We presprout them so the eyes are super easy to see, then plant a few weeks before last frost. Pretty confident our soil won’t have a deep freeze again. We also pulled the silage tarp back over them to keep them warm and to keep the weeds down and will pull it off in a few days. Always trying new things😳 Who’s with me?

Cool plants are in, and by cool I mean ones that handle cold, and by in I mean in the ground:) we also finished my most hated job of the season…what is that? The netting is ready! All cut and in place so I don’t have to trip and tangle through it again!!!!! Note to self- buy the right width even if it costs more, and pay someone else to do it 😂 oh and always have a farmer boy around to encourage you! This one is pretty good at that.

A perfect green overall day:) Our first matching outfits and they happen to be my fav😍 Everything prepped for planting tomorrow! Do you see that soil? This was 100% clay 4 years ago, to compacted to rototill. Now after a few years of no-till, compost, and love it looks so good! It takes the whole family to make it happen, what a lovely day.

Plant babies have been sleeping outside this week, as we prepare to plant this weekend! My tip for hardening off plants-put them in a place that gets shade part of the day, then move them out to full sun as the days go by, for me that means they get pulled up the steps more and more into the sun as they acclimate. I am not a fan of putting 183749873663 trays in and out multiple times a day, #worksmarter 😊

I will say with all the seed tulip problems in Holland some of our varieties are very short and sparse, but a few are really outdoing themselves!
